So I, uhm, quite misinterpreted Tumblr’s new highlighted posts feature. This is a screencap by my friend Kalaka.

I thought a highlighted post was, in the fashion of the highlighted posts at Wordpress blogs, a post that is kept fixed on top of the most recent posts. I should have read more carefully: For one dollar, your post will stand out in the Dashboard with a customizable sticker to make sure your followers take notice!. A sticker. Nothing else. D’oh!

Since I obviously didn’t know how the highlighting was supposed to look like, I’ve already wasted two dollars because I didn’t see the effect on my own dashboard, so I posted the same article twice. I don’t mind giving back to Tumblr but really, stickers? I’m certainly not buying more credit to keep using them.

This highlighting feature could have been a great thing; I wouldn’t have minded a few fixed posts on top of my dashboard, because that would have meant that the cool people I follow thought it was worth to pay for the highlighting of their special updates so I wouldn’t miss them, and Tumblr would get a revenue. A win-win situation. But a sticker is doing nothing for me, thank you.

Oh, and there it seems to exist an undetermined time limit to use the highlighting option (maybe one per day?), so I can’t visually spam you with harmless stickers in a row, even if the posts are hours apart. Boo :-P
